One hundred and fifty (!) educators came to talk and think together June 24 in the Northern California Call to Action for History Educators. We talked about honoring Black Lives Matter and working towards a more just future. Teachers shared resources and had small group conversations and our CHSSP network compiled a list of resources. Check out the “Articles and Personal Learning” links and choose something useful and lively to read today! (also see this shorter list that we at HCP have assembled.)

We were also lucky to collaborate with our partner sites on this work. The convening was initially developed by the UCLA History & Geography Project and we worked with The History-Social Science Project at UCB and  The History Project at UCD to produce this Central/Northern California version. Importantly, twenty teachers from the region helped facilitate! Good stuff!  flyer for BLM event

These events followed the publication of our Network’s Statement in Response to the Death of George Floyd. In it, our California History-Social Science Project pledges “increased support of teachers’ efforts to: 1) have honest and difficult conversations about this crisis with their students, 2) deepen students’ understanding of the long and complicated history of racial injustice, and 3) develop their students’ capacity to address injustice and improve civil society for the future.”

Stay tuned!
