Join us for this virtual kick-off event on January 23rd at 3:30 pm (PST). Our featured guest, multimedia artist and professor William Villalongo, will share his exciting project of reimagining W.E.B. Dubois’ historic data portraits where he uses current data to raise awareness of conditions around Black lives in the 21st Century. We will then further explore Dubois’ stunning visualizations and their context, as well as consider effective uses in the classroom of both those sources and a process of interrogating and re-imagining representations.

This event is intended for anyone who appreciates amazing art, or is working at the intersections of community data, informed civic action, history, social science, ethnic studies and STEAM education. (Invite your math and science colleagues!)

Come to hear about the Project, stay to learn about and discuss classroom applications.
